Christian Education

Our church family seeks spiritual growth through the study of God's word and the sharing of experiences. From the smallest child learning that "Jesus loves me" on through adults who may be struggling with "love your enemy," spiritual growth is a continuing process.

God has given us excellent classroom facilities for Christian education. But more importantly, God has given us dedicated church family members who serve as teachers, program coordinators, and leaders of our education and spiritual growth programs.

Classes We Offer:

Youth Sunday School Classes:  On Sunday mornings, September through May, we offer classes for children age 2 through grade 5.  Teachers work in teams and offer age appropriate curriculum and fun in all classes!  Classes begin at 9:30 am.

Nursery Care:  Nursery Care for children ages 3 and younger is provided by our paid nursery caregiver, Kirsten Owen.  Kirsten has training in Early Childhood Development and is infant/toddler CPR and First Aid certified.  She is an energetic, compassionate, and creative caregiver who provides a safe environment for infants and toddlers allowing their parents to worship comfortably.  During our regular worship schedule, Kirsten is available in the nursery from 8:00am - 12:00pm.

Adult Sunday School Classes:  Adult Sunday School classes are offered, September through May, on Sunday mornings.  We cover a variety of topics, each lasting for a set number of weeks.  This year some of the offerings we have planned are a 12 week class titled "Wesleyan Essentials in  Multicultural Society" and a 4 week Advent study on the prophet Isaiah.  For all class listings, please contact the office at office@umcbrunswick.org or 207-725-2185.  Classes begin at 9:30 am and will be held in the Respite Room.

Weekday Bible Study and Communion:  This group meets on Wednesday mornings, September through June, at 9 am for communion, followed by refreshments and Bible Study from 9:30-10:30.  This study is led by Rosemary Word and covers a variety of topics throughout the year.

Faith Inkubators:  Our new program for youth in grades 6-12.  This program will combine elements of Sunday School and Confirmation class, as well as service activities and youth fellowship.  This group meets on most Sunday evenings at 5:30 pm.  For more information, contact Pastor Jeff at pastorjeff@umcbrunswick.org

Vacation Bible School (VBS):  VBS is a week-long summer camp, usually held in July, for youth of all ages.  It combines learning, fellowship, active play, and refreshments for an excellent adventure.  Themes vary year to year, but always promise lots of fun for your children!

(written by Elliott Crews, Jonah Hunt & Nathaniel Hunt as participants in "This is It!")

I Believe...

  • in God and Jesus
  • the church will one day rule
  • that in the future we will all get closer together
  • the church will live forever
  • the church is a stronghold for everyone that believes in God
  • the church is a place that could bring everyone together with love
  • the church is a place that thins off darkness
  • the church is a place where I can express myself
  • the church is a place where I can believe in God
  • that the church is the closest way to God
